Omni Rancho Las Palmas: Is It Worth It?

We went to Omni Rancho Las Palmas this past Labor Day.  We were in search of a trip with short travel time but big on relaxation and family fun.  The Omni Rancho Las Palmas resort did not disappoint!Omni Rancho Las Palmas-Main driveway

We were amazed at the sheer size of the resort when we pulled up to check in.  The resort is beautiful and is surrounded by lush greenery

Our main focus for this visit was to spend family time at the pool for two days straight.  As a result, we did not take full advantage of all of the amenities that the Omni Rancho Las Palmas resort has to offer.  We will only provide a review and opinion of the amenities we actually used on this trip.

The Room

We booked a standard two queen bedroom at Omni Rancho Las Palmas.  We arrived early and thankfully a room was available and ready for us.

There are 444 guest rooms sprawled across the 240 acre resort.  The buildings are beautiful and are only two-stories tall.  It is easy to pull right up to your room and unload your bags.

I love the beautiful tile work on the stairs.

Shout out to Armando at the front desk!  He asked if we would be spending a lot of time at the pool.  Of course!  He upgraded us for free to a room that was right next to the pool.

We knew we came to the right place when we saw the mountain with water slides!

Given that the temperatures were reaching 105 the days we were there, we were very happy not to have to walk far to the pool area.  In my opinion, any view at Omni Rancho Las Palmas would be beautiful.

I am not sure what the other rooms look like, but here was our upgraded room.

The Pool Area

The pool area is absolutely amazing.  Seriously.  We came on this 2-night vacation determined to just lounge and enjoy the pool.  The family wanted to be lazy and avoid tourist attractions.  We have been to Palm Springs before, so this wasn’t too difficult 😉

The Omni Rancho Las Palmas has two pools, a splash pad, lazy river, and two slides.  There is even a little sand area for kids to play with sand toys.  This resort has thought of everything!Omni Rancho Las Palmas-Sand areaThere are two pools, however one is designated as adult only.  Of course, we had kids in tow and did not bother trying out this pool.  But honestly, why would you when there’s a lazy river right next to the other one?Omni Rancho Las Palmas-gate between pool and lazy river

The kid-friendly pool is fairly large and is located next to pool amenities.Omni Rancho Las Palmas-kid-friendly poolWe loved that the deepest part of the pool was only four feet.   There is a small shop next to the pool, towel service, and a kids club.  My kids were too busy enjoying the pool and did not take part in the club.

If you are hungry, there is wait staff circling the pool ready to take your order.  There is both food and alcoholic beverages.  I ordered a mai tai, and I can personally say that they do not skimp on the alcohol.  The drinks were absolutely perfect.

There are also cabanas for rent poolside.  They are each equipped with ice buckets and a ceiling fan.Omni Rancho Las Palmas-Cabanas by the pool

Splashtopia

Let’s talk about the Lazy River at Omni Rancho Las Palmas shall we?  This baby is 425 feet long.  It is huge and I am sitting here wishing I was floating down it right now!  I took a video so that I can return whenever I want.

There are plenty of water tubes for everyone, so don’t worry about bringing your own.Omni Rancho Las Palmas-Splashtopia

There are also lifeguards stationed throughout the river.  They were even there when yours truly tried to hop onto the tube and flipped over backwards into the water.  And before you think it, NO!  It was not the mai tai!  This former lifeguard was embarrassed to say the least.

The slides were another must for my family.  We were delighted to find that there were two 100-foot slides near the Lazy River.  Just beware, kids must be at least 42 inches to ride on the slides.

Omni Rancho Las Palmas-Splashtopia slidesDon’t worry if you have little ones though, there is a really cool splash pad and the little ones looked like they really loved it.  If you have a little one under 42 inches, you also need to be sure to accompany them on the lazy river.

Just a little warning though, the ground gets very hot, so you might want to take water shoes.

I highly recommend going out for a dip at night.  The lit up pool area was beautiful.  We rode around the Lazy River at least 10 times.

Golf

There are 27 holes of championship golf at Omni Rancho Las Palmas.  The golf course has three distinct 9-hole layouts: East Course, South Course, and West Course.  You are playing among the palm trees and scenic mountain views.

My husband was thrilled to try out the golf course.  The resort fees included free golf at the resort in September.  You better believe he used that as an excuse to play two mornings in a row!  I did not personally play golf, but my husband said it was awesome.  The particular 9 holes available for play will vary by day based on maintenance and pace of play.

The hotel will pick you up at your room and drive you out to the golf course.  You will want to take advantage of this complimentary service as the resort is huge.
