What Inspired These Pom Pom Bunnies?
My kids LOVE Peeps bunnies. Every year new flavors are introduced, and my girls are the first in line to try them out!
These cute pom pom bunnies can be made in one or several colors.
I used a handy pom pom maker that saved me from using excessive amounts of yarn. As a result I used smaller swatches of yarn and found it was easy to make more than one color.
You can find the pom pom maker set I used HERE.
What supplies do I need?
These bunnies are awesome because they don’t require a whole lot!
Here’s what I used:
- Yarn (various colors if desired)
- Pom Pom maker set
- Large paper clips
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
Lets make some bunnies!
The steps are simple and few 😉
Step 1: Make your pom poms.
Make one large pom pom, then a medium size pom pom in the same color. I used this pom pom maker set and they formed quickly.
Step 2: Give your pom poms hair cuts.
Trim the pom poms so that they are uniform all around. I found that the shorter I trimmed the pom pom balls, the denser (and prettier!) that they looked.
Step 3: Stick them together!
Hot glue the smaller pom pom onto the larger pom pom. The large pom is the body, while the smaller pom is the head.
Step 4: Make some ears!
- Take one paper clip and hot glue one end of yarn to the tip of the paper clip.
- Wrap the yarn around the tip until it is covered.
- Next, start wrapping the same yarn horizontally along the length of the paper clip.
- Hot glue the end to complete the ear.
- Repeat for the second ear.
Tip: I had some pastel colored paper clips that closely matched the yarn. This happy coincidence made this project a lot easier. You an often find these at the local dollar store.
Step 5: Glue the ears to the bunny head.
Make sure to glue the unfinished end onto the pom. I made sure to glue each ear to the “center string” along the middle of the pom pom. This will provide the most stable base for the ears. If needed, use a tooth pick to provide added support for the ear.
Also, have fun with the ears and place the any way you like! Since they’re paper clips, you can bend the ears in a cute way if you like.
Step 6: Adorn the bunny any way that you like!
I opted for simple bunnies because I wanted them to be reminiscent of Peeps. However, you can add googly eyes, bow ties, etc. to add some character to your bunnies!
